Promene karakteristika ekonomsko-socijalnog modela kapitalističkog privrednog sistema u pravcu osiguranja veće održivosti, što je, rezultiralo aktuelizacijom i promovisanjem modela održivog razvoja na međunarodnom nivou, dok se, sve više naglašava tzv. „zelena dimenzija“ održivog razvoja, neizostavno su zahtevale određena preispitivanja tradicionalno definisanog modela rada. Naročito se ističe fenomen globalizacije i digitalizacije proizvodnje, što vodi ka svojevrsnoj „globo-digitalizaciji“ rada, te neophodnosti utvrđivanja konceptualnog okvira, kao i pratećeg normativnog uobličavanja novih, faktičkih formi rada u tradicionalnim institucionalnim okvirima zaštite.
Sagledavanjem teorijskih i konceptualnih postulata tradicionalno definisanog modela rada, odnosno tradicionalnog radnog odnosa, sa fokusom na često, u literaturi, isticanog elementa subordinacije kao posebno spornog u okolnostima ubrzane digitalizacije, u radu se nastoji da se kritički analiziraju elementi tzv. digitalnog radnog odnosa. Osim toga, na primeru rešenja nemačkog prava, cilj je utvrđivanje stanja regulative u drugim državama i u domaćem pravu, na način da se doprinese akademskoj raspravi u oblasti koja se ubrzano razvija.
